Poseidon

May 1st 2009

Poseidon is an extremely strong, powerful, greedy, but yet merciful god. He is the god of the sea – both fresh, and salt. He controls whether the sea is angry or calm. He is also known as earth-shaker, since he is attributed to making earth quakes. Poseidon is son of Cronus, and Rhea two titans. When Poseidon was born his father Cronus swallowed him as he feared that one of his children would overthrow him. Poseidon’s brother – Zeus was not swallowed. Zeus soon overthrew Cronus saving all Poseidon’s siblings. Poseidon’s siblings are Zeus, Hades, Demeter, Hestia, and Hera. Poseidon and all of his siblings are Olympian gods. Poseidon has many children of many different species. He has Cyclopes children, and a horse named Pegasus, of which he had with the Gorgon Medusa.

Poseidon did not have many weaknesses as he was a extraordinarily powerful god. Poseidon once got into an argument with Athena, goddess of war, for the city of Athens.  According to www.Pantheon.org “Poseidon threw a spear at the ground and produced the spring at the Acropolis. However, Athena won as the result of giving the people of Athens the olive tree.” Eventually though Poseidon and Athena combined they’re powers such as Athena made the first boat to sail on the sea which Poseidon ruled, and Athena made the first chariot for the horses Poseidon created.
