This is my first avatar. I made it look

like me, on what I would wear, and

because I like dogs.

This is my second avatar. It is just

a head, and I made it from the

website: www.deviantart.com.

My computer skills are okay, but not fabulous. I can type somewhat fast, but I don't know that much about computers. I know where most of the keys are on the computer, and for that reason I am good at typing. One of my weaknesses are that I am not particularly good at excel. I am pretty good at surfing the computer though, and I find it fun to find new things every time I surf the Internet.

Greeting Card Assignment

I made my hand-made card from just a piece of printing paper and colored pencils. I folded the paper so it made four squares, and started making my pictures and writing my greeting. It didn't take me a long time, about 15 minutes, and I really didn't encounter any problems. Overall it was a pretty easy assignment.

My computer made card was a different story. It took me a longer time to make, and I encoutered more problems. I simply typed the message the same from the other card, and made my pictures. Unfortunately, it took me a while.

I used two programs while making the card, Paint and Publisher. The problems I had was that in Paint it took me a while to make my picture and logo look somewhat how I had it in my hand-made card. In Publisher I had a difficult time making my Paint pictures to save, but I eventually figured it out. It was also hard to match the same colors from my other card.

Some good things about my hand-made card is that I can give it my "style". If I want to, I can make bubble letters, or any other type of writing I want. On the downside it might look a little more messy then I want it to be. Another good thing about hand-made cards is that I can make my pictures more detailed compared to computers. But I don't like how my card can have misspelled words without me knowing.

Some good things about my computer made card is that it will always look neat. Unfortunately, it can look plain sometimes. Another thing is that all my words will be spelled correctly, but the pictures would never look as good as home-made cards.

The method that took the most time is the computer card. It's hard to figure out all the different programs, and make the pictures look exactly alike. The hand-made card is my favorite card to make because I can give it personality without having it look plain.

Website Review

The website I chose was www.dogpile.com. It is a search engine that is based on saving abused dogs. Every time a person goes on to dogpile they will probably see some animated dogs on the bottom of the screen.  One of the dog's name is Arfie, their mascot. The backround is sky blue, and there will be an amount of money that dogpile is raising for the ASPCA on the top. The information on dogpile is very well organized, and all you have to do is type in your topic, and if you want it to be on the web, an image, audio, video, yellow pages, or white pages. There are no flaws or glitches in dogpile that I know of, and you can easily find what you want.

The purpose of dogpile is to look up things that you want to know. Dogpile gives you any information that you want. For an example, if you type in "cars" and click "videos" on the top, then dogpile will show you car videos. There are many search engines like dogpile. But what is so interesting and different about dogpile is that it gathers information from the search engines of google, yahoo, ask, and live search and brings it all into one website.

The content of dogpile does match its purpose. Near the bottom dogpile has Favorite "Fetches" and Quick Starts. It is easy to read, and with the logo of "Search the web, help rescue pets." There aren't really any other articles or highlights on dogpile besides that.

Mistakes or errors are not found on the homepage of dogpile. Though there can be a chance that there is some when you look up a topic.

I think the site, dogpile, is very effective on what it says, by raising money for the ASPCA. It is something that attracts people to help out their world. I think some other sites, like google, are better at finding things that you want, but if you want to help animals then you should go to dogpile.

Dogpile is made for any age group at any time. Whether it is from young children or to your grandma and grandpa, dogpile is pretty much made for everyone. Parents really don't need to worry.

Dogpile was written by the company InfoSpace. InfoSpace specializes in the making of other search engines, which they are qualified to do, and are professional.

Today I decided to take the Joe Cool or Joe Fool quiz on Internet safety. I only got 9/20 questions right on the quiz, which is 45%. The quiz was hard, becuase most of the questions were on surveys in Canada (and if you didn't know this, were in America!!!!!!!!!!!). This is how I did on my quiz.

I have also made an internet safety tip using paint and publisher. In the backround there are many circles of different sizes and shapes. In the center I wrote, "Don't Talk to Strangers!" That is the poster I made.

Over the past couple of weeks in technology, I learned so many new things. I loved how Mrs.Wathen introduced us to picnik, elfyourself, and the html. My computer skills have increased a lot, especially in typing. I've learned about many different websites, from our reviews, and I have enjoyed this class thoroughly. One negative was, especially during the explaining of html, class would get a bit boring and confusing. This is what I thought of the class technology.

I liked you essay. You told me how long you made it and if it was messy or not. There wasn't that much errors, but you can tell a little more about why your hand-made card was your favorit method.
